ABYC-aligned. Power math. Zero fluff.
Systems reliability content for center consoles, cruisers, and liveaboards. No lifestyle boating. No brand mentions.
What's Inside
- Pre-connection pedestal inspection
- 30A vs 50A wattage verification
- Battery voltage thresholds (12.6V rest, 13.5–14.7V charging)
- Parasitic drain quick-check
- Terminal corrosion and ground checks
- Pre-launch electrical safety
Who This Is For
- Center console owners (electronics, livewells)
- Cruisers with refrigeration and AC
- Liveaboards managing house loads
- Anyone diagnosing dead battery or breaker trips
Lead magnet: Email capture form placeholder. Wire to ESP (Mailchimp, ConvertKit, etc.) when ready.
Beginner friendly?
Yes — written for non-electricians. Systems-based.

Pre-Connection (Shore Power)
- Disconnect shore cord from boat before pedestal inspection
- Inspect pedestal outlet for damage, burn marks, exposed wiring
- 30A = 3,600W max | 50A = 12,000W max — know your load
- Connect surge protector or EMS to pedestal first; verify green/OK before connecting cord
Battery Voltage
- Resting voltage: 12.6V = full. Below 12.2V = weak
- Charging (engine or charger): 13.5–14.7V
- Load-test annually after year 3
Terminals & Connections
- No corrosion on battery terminals
- Dielectric grease on connections (excludes moisture)
- Ground connections secure
Parasitic Drain (Key Off)
- Normal draw: <50 mA after modules sleep
- Check bilge pump and float switch for stuck operation
- USB chargers, electronics: unplug when not in use
Monthly
- Battery voltage check
- Terminal inspection
- Shore cord and plug condition
- Bilge pump operation test
Seasonal
- Load-test batteries
- Charger float voltage verification
- Ground connection inspection
Pre-Launch
- Battery disconnect functional
- No corrosion on main connections
- Breakers trip and reset properly
- Never work on live circuits
Quick Reference
Shore: Inspect pedestal · Surge/EMS first · 30A=3,600W / 50A=12,000W
Battery: 12.6V rest · 13.5–14.7V charging · <50 mA parasitic
Maintenance: Terminals clean · Dielectric grease · Grounds secure
Safety: Disconnect before servicing
